Sous Chef

Sous Chef is essentially an assistant to the executive kitchen head. Varying in levels depending on the experience and skill set of the employee, every restaurant or hotel has multiple sous chefs. Junior Sous chefs are generally involved with basic food preparations and getting the raw materials ready, while the senior sous chefs are the ones who execute the order as per the head’s instructions. A new comer generally can start with the former and walk their way up to the latter.

It is important to understand that although in appearance Sous chef jobs might seem positions of minimal responsibility, most of the work of an executive is carried out by his assistants. Both Senior sous chef jobs and junior sous chef jobs are challenging on their own levels, and if you find a good head chef to assist, there will be lot of learning involved in either role.
