With the long weekend ahead, and the school holidays in full swing, it can sometimes be a battle to find something out of the ordinary to do in London. Take a look at our suggestions below for activities here in the capital and surrounding areas.

Pick Your Own Farm

Nothing says British Summer more than heading into the countryside and plucking your own raspberries, strawberries and other fresh fruits. There are many farms you can visit in the surrounding counties, one of which being Parkside Farm. The farm is in easy reach of the city and is set in the beautiful rolling greenbelt countryside, just to the north of Enfield. Stroll around the farm with a basket in hand and a selection of fruit and veg to take home. The perfect weekend outing and a great way to ditch the supermarket plastic.

Vauxhall Climbing Centre

If your idea of a relaxing Bank Holiday weekend is sat in the garden with a Pimm’s, this probably isn’t for you… However, if you are one of those adventure seekers, strapping yourself in and climbing up a pretend mountain in London, is probably very much up your street. There are many different climbing centres in London and whether you’re a pro at scaling the climbing wall or a newbie looking to give it a go, there is something to appetise the thrill within us all.

Open Air Cinema

Nothing beats popping open a tin of G&T, reclining in a deck chair and spending an evening under the stars watching a Hollywood blockbuster. Over the years, London has seen a demand in open-air cinemas and now that the sunny weather is (hopefully) here to stay, a night spent outside without the use of a brolly, is even more appealing. From Film4’s Summer Screen in the stunning Somerset House Courtyard, to snuggling up under a blanket at 'Movies on the River' by City Cruises, there are plenty of idyllic locations to enjoy an array of genre’s and unforgivably romantic date nights.

Ride The Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit

Labelled ‘London’s most exciting attraction’, The Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit opened in June 2016 and has attracted visitors from around the world. Measuring 178m, with 12 twists and turns, The Slide is the world’s tallest and longest tunnel slide. The experience lasts 40-seconds, however with the incredible view of London’s skyline from the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit, including a clear visual into the majestic London Stadium, you could easily spend an afternoon getting lost above the clouds.

The State Rooms, Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace, the home of The Queen, a symbol of Great Britain and a focus of National and Royal celebrations has just opened its doors for the 10 weeks of Summer. Explore the 19 lavishly furnished State Rooms of one of the world’s few remaining working palaces, whilst the digital tour guides you through each royal artefact and painting that dome’s the palace walls. For those of you who have recently been hooked on The Crown on Netflix, this is hands-down a must visit!

Stranger Pins: Stranger Things Bowling Party

On August 24th venture to Upside Down - a bowling party with a difference. For one night only, Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes will be dressing the venue Stranger Things style and channelling their inner Eleven, Will, Hopper, Mike & the rest of the gang. With 80’s synth bangers all night long, transport yourself back in time to London’s favourite retro bowling alley and enjoy an evening of celebrating one of the best shows on Netflix.
