London is home to some of the most exciting rooftops and it seems with each year that passes, they become more and more inventive. From rooftop BBQs to adventure golf with a view, you’d be silly not to explore these skyline social scenes. We’ve put together the best of the best in rooftop bars and restaurants and we hope you’ll find the time to enjoy some of them over the summer months.
An outdoor dining experience like no other, sit amongst their very own greenhouse garden area and enjoy a casual drink, lunch or dinner. Culpeper offers a relaxed rustic rooftop vibe with the added benefit of a wood-fired grill and lovely views of the city.
Undoubtedly the fanciest rooftop of them all, Kensington Roof Gardens is a must for any gardening enthusiasts. Take a wander through the Spanish Garden, the Tudor Garden or the English Woodland and explore the beautiful plant life, as well as, the much-talked-about flamingos.
And with all this walking you are bound to build up quite the thirst and appetite! Let Head Chef Ian Howard prepare you one of his seasonal British dishes in Babylon Restaurant or sit back and relax on the Babylon terrace with a cocktail.
Skylight is set over three floors of a former car park and is themed around a British lawn club with croquet, pétanque and lots of delicious street food on offer. Who knew a car park could be transformed into something so quintessentially English.
Situated on the 10th floor of the ME London hotel, Radio Rooftop is the perfect place to soak up some of the London summer sun while enjoying a glass of bubbly. The views aren’t too shabby either if you’re looking for a place that’ll impress.
We love the Pergola concept – taking unused or unloved spaces and making them beautiful outdoor destinations where friends can gather and enjoy good food and drinks. Visit either of the Pergola sites in London and experience the chilled environment which is created by calming colour concepts, romantic lighting and soothing music.
If heights are not your thing, you best give this one a miss! Home to London’s highest garden which is set 155 metres up, Sky Garden offers exquisite views of the city landscape and of course, as the name suggests, access to beautifully landscaped gardens too. Plan your visit and choose from one of their many dining options, our personal favourite being Darwin Brasserie, an all-day dining restaurant.
If you’re looking for elegance, look no further. Rumpus offers lush greenery, plush sofas and comfortable lounge areas with a British-American inspired menu. Although it’s open all day, the live music in the evening makes it a great choice for those looking for somewhere to party the night away in a sophisticated environment.
Arguably the best restaurant in London if you’re after a 360 degree view of the city, Sushisamba offers a unique combination of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine, culture and music. It also boasts the highest outdoor dining terraces in Europe and will wow any diner with its magical interior design. The food is rather amazing too, definitely one to book if you’re planning for a special occasion.
Dalston’s only rooftop venue is an oasis of lush turf, palm trees and flowers and it has been designed to encourage fun and attract people from every walk of life. Of course, there are drinks on offer but it’s their attitude towards food that really interests us as they have a passion for seasonal, local and ethical produce.
This year Queen of Hoxton has been transformed into Bangarang and in their own words “Queen of Hoxton invites generation Peter Pan to a land where dreams are born and time is never planned…”. We love the fun menu names which include Never Never Land Ribs, Bangarang Burger and Peter Pan Prawns, as well as, the Floating Fairy and Mermaid Slushie cocktails.
Over the years, Frank’s has become an iconic destination of sorts, with its unpretentious approach to rooftop experiences. What it lacks in fancy décor, it makes up for in inspired food and drinks. The menu includes foodie delights such as Brown sugar hot wings, Ox heart kebab and cuttlefish, squid ink aioli, chilli and parsley – certainly not your conventional rooftop bar menu! It’s also dog and child friendly for those who want to take both furry and non-furry babies along.
When summer hits London, our first point of call is often the Southbank, with its vibey bars, eateries and cultural flair. But what many people often don’t know is that there is a hidden gem in the form of Queen Elizabeth Hall’s Roof Garden, a botanical haven that lends itself to anyone looking for a peaceful place to soak up some rays.
Oozing elegance from the 10th floor of the Montcalm Hotel, Aviary restaurant and rooftop bar overlooks the London skyline and serves a modern British menu which boasts an array of delicious dishes. We can think of nothing better than the Shellfish platter for two which includes a whole Brixham blue lobster, half dozen Teignmouth rock oysters, king prawns, crevettes, Menai mussels and dressed Dorset crab. Pair it with a bottle glass, bottle or magnum (if you’ve got nowhere to be) of Whispering Angel rose.
A Californian-style restaurant in Selfridges on Oxford Street that offers al fresco dining to shoppers and those looking for somewhere to enjoy a bit of sunshine. The menu is packed with healthy yet tasty dishes and it’s rumoured that their guacamole is the best in town! We can’t wait to check this one out.
Although it’s not open to the public daily, Office Space in Town in Monument offer a stunning events space called The Deck. With views overlooking The Shard and Tower Bridge this is a perfect place to entertain up to 100 guests. It offers a fully licensed bar and has a café for any catering requirements.
